Located in this region are the major cities, towns, and villages of Central New Mexico are Albuquerque, Belen, Corrales, Los Lunas, Las Vegas, Rio Rancho, and Socorro; the Pueblos of Cochiti Pueblo, Jemez Pueblo, San Felipe Pueblo, Sandia Pueblo, Santa Ana Pueblo, Santo Domingo Pueblo, and Zia Pueblo.

The location was located on the ancient Pueblo trade-routes, and the Spanish trade-routes like El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro, and Historic Route 66; both of which are preserved in parts, and is the current location of the Albuquerque International Sunport and the Big-I, the intersection of I-25 and I-40. Surrounding regions are Northwest New Mexico, North Central New Mexico, Northeast New Mexico, Southwest New Mexico, and Southeast New Mexico.
